VP on "Stimulus": "Some People are Being Scammed Already"

Thanks to the trillion-dollar "stimulus" spending bill, you could be getting scammed – at least according to the Vice President of the United States, Joe Biden. Biden admits that, yes, our tax dollars are being wasted and some people – you? Me? Who? – are being scammed already.  From Reuters:

"Vice President Joe Biden acknowledged on Tuesday that some waste is inevitable in the spending of a $787 billion economic stimulus package, in a characteristically blunt assessment.

"'We know some of this money is going to be wasted,' Biden said during a roundtable discussion in New York with business leaders aimed at promoting the two-year stimulus plan. ...

"'There are going to be mistakes made,' said Biden. 'Some people are being scammed already.'"

And Biden would know.  He's the guy the President put in charge of a "tough, unprecedented oversight effort" that so far can't tell us where our "stimulus" dollars are going. (Hat tip: Mary Katharine Ham)

It didn't have to be this way. Congress could have passed the Republican economic recovery plan, which would be creating new jobs without increasing government spending. Or Speaker Pelosi could have upheld Democrats' promise to give the public 48 hours – at least –to review the "stimulus" spending bill.

In the future, the President and Congress should consider House Republican Leader John Boehner's (R-OH) suggestion that the public have 72 hours to review every major spending bill. Maybe that way we can avoid being "scammed" with our own tax dollars.
