GOP Economic Recovery Plan Could Create 6.2 MILLION Jobs

Remember the President's goal of creating somewhere around 2.5 million jobs over two years? Well, forget it, because House Republicans have given President Obama a chance to blow that goal out of the water.

When Republican analysts on the House Ways & Means Committee applied the President's economic advisors' non-partisan methodology to the House GOP Economic Recovery Plan, it shows the Republican plan could create 6.2 million jobs over the next two years.

That's right. Estimates and analysis by President Obama's own advisors found that, for example, every dollar in tax relief generates $2.20 - $3.00 of economic activity. You can read peer reviewed analysis by Dr. Christina Romer, the President's nominee to Chair the Council of Economic Advisors, by clicking here.

The Republican plan was written by Reps. Dave Camp (R-MI), Eric Cantor (R-VA), and the House GOP working group on economic recovery. This Camp-Cantor legislation accomplishes these impressive numbers by enacting fast-acting tax relief – not by borrowing another $1 trillion from China to pay for wasteful, slow-moving government spending.

Boehner described the GOP proposals in an op-ed today for TownHall.com:

"Our proposals are rooted in the belief that fast-acting tax relief, rather than slow-moving and wasteful government spending, is the most effective way to protect and create jobs and help put our economy back on track. They provide relief to those who need it most: middle-class families, job seekers, small businesses owners, the self-employed, entrepreneurs, and homebuyers – all with the goal of letting them keep more of what they earn and helping our economy create good-paying, long-lasting jobs."

President Obama has made a concerted effort to reach out to Republicans throughout the process of crafting an economic recovery package. The only ones standing in the way of progress are Congressional Democrats.
