The Freedom Project has put together this simple clearinghouse for information on Republicans' “All of the Above” energy strategy to help lower gas prices and liberate America from its dependence on foreign oil.

House Republicans have launched an aggressive "All of the Above" energy strategy aimed at forcing the Democrat-led Congress to act quickly on real energy reforms. The cornerstone is the American Energy Act (H.R. 6566) which will INCREASE the supply American-made energy in environmentally sound ways, IMPROVE energy conservation and efficiency, PROMOTE alternative and renewable energy technologies, and spur the development of alternative fuels.

There have been 14 key votes so far in the 110th Congress where the Democratic Majority had the opportunity to step up and do the right thing on energy reform. Unfortunately, on each occasion, the majority of Democrats – including Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) – voted against increasing production of American energy. Here are the key votes:

JUNE 26, 2008 – MTR 6052 – 217 Democrats voted against funds for local school districts that are hurt by high fuel prices and have implemented service cuts in school bus transportation. The pro-energy vote was YES. SEE HOW THEY VOTED.

MAY 22, 2008 – H.R. 5658 – 222 Democrats voted against a motion-to-recommit (MTR) to increase the use of alternative fuels like clean coal-to-liquids and oil from oil shale and sands, by repealing Section 526 of the Democrat energy bill H.R. 6. The pro-energy vote was YES. SEE HOW THEY VOTED

APRIL 23, 2008 – H.R. 5819 – 215 Democrats voted against an MTR to promote alternative fuels and projects that have the potential to lower gasoline and diesel prices. The pro-energy vote was YES. SEE HOW THEY VOTED

FEBRUARY 27, 2008 – H.R. 5351 – 219 Democrats voted to impose billions of dollars of taxes on the domestic oil and gas industry, leading to higher energy and gas costs. The pro-energy vote was NO. SEE HOW THEY VOTED

AUGUST 7, 2007 – H.R. 3221 – 217 Democrats voted against an MTR striking the entire text of H.R. 3221 and replacing it with pro-American energy production provisions including more oil and gas from ANWR, deep ocean energy zones, and oil shale; more refineries and more clean coal. The bill would have also promoted more R&D into new energy technologies. The pro-energy vote was YES. SEE HOW THEY VOTED

AUGUST 4, 2007 – H.R. 3221 / AMDT. 748 – 188 Democrats voted for the “Udall Amendment,” a one-size-fits-all federal Renewable Portfolio Standard mandate, ignoring the available energy resources and economic needs of individual states. The Udall requirement could raise electricity prices for consumers by billions of dollars. The pro-energy vote was NO. SEE HOW THEY VOTED

AUGUST 4, 2007 – H.R. 2776 – 212 Democrats voted to raise taxes on American energy production to pay for “green pork” projects, allowing taxpayer funds to subsidize things like Lexus Hybrids in Beverly Hills and putting copies of Al Gore’s book in children’s classrooms. The pro-energy vote was NO. SEE HOW THEY VOTED

JUNE 27, 2007 – H.R. 2643 / AMDT. 448 – 203 Democrats voted to prohibit production of the 1.5 trillion barrels of oil in oil shale on federal lands. The pro-energy vote was NO. SEE HOW THEY VOTED

JUNE 27, 2007 – MTR H.R. 2643 – 220 Democrats voted to allow Congress to pass energy legislation even if it would raise gas prices and home heating costs. The pro-energy vote was YES. SEE HOW THEY VOTED.

JUNE 26, 2007 – H.R. 2643 / AMDT. 405 – 194 Democrats opposed lifting the federal moratorium on natural gas preleasing, leasing, and related activities beyond 25 miles from U.S. coastlines. The pro-energy vote was YES. SEE HOW THEY VOTED

JUNE 20, 2007 – H.R. 2641 / AMDT. 350 – 142 Democrats voted for an amendment prohibiting new transmission lines that could be used to bring clean electricity from renewable and alternative sources to American consumers. The pro-energy vote was NO. SEE HOW THEY VOTED

APRIL 24, 2007 – H.R. 363 – 149 Democrats voted against an MTR promoting expanded American energy production through coal-to-liquids technology and advanced nuclear processing. The pro-energy vote was YES. SEE HOW THEY VOTED

FEBRUARY 8, 2007 – H.R. 547 – 206 Democrats voted against an MTR to increase the supply of alternative clean coal-to-liquids fuels. The pro-energy vote was YES. SEE HOW THEY VOTED

JANUARY 18, 2007 – H.R. 6 – 228 Democrats voted to impose new taxes and mandates on American energy companies and – in the words of the Heritage Foundation – “other counterproductive measures that would have raised energy prices.” The pro-energy vote was NO. SEE HOW THEY VOTED

Republicans have filed a series of “discharge petitions” to force votes on real energy reforms. Each requires a simple majority of the Members of Congress to sign it before a vote can be scheduled.

"NO MORE EXCUSES" ENERGY ACT - 6/10/08 - Rep. Tim Walberg (R-MI) filed a discharge petition to force a vote on a bill by Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-TX), the No More Excuses Energy Act (H.R. 3089). The Thornberry bill would lift the congressional ban on drilling in deep ocean energy zones, open the Alaskan coastal plain to responsible drilling, boost alternative energy development by extending the wind production tax credit, encourage new refinery construction, and encourage the construction of new nuclear power plants.

  • WRITE a letter to the editor of a local newspaper or CALL talk radio; demand that Democratic leaders hold an up-or-down vote on Republicans’ American Energy Act.

---> Republicans have a plan to help lower gas prices but the Democrat-led Congress refuses to schedule a vote.

---> The American Energy Act allows new drilling and exploration in an environmentally safe way, provides tax incentives for businesses and families that improve energy efficiency, promotes alternative and renewable fuel technologies, and more. LEARN MORE

  • CONTRIBUTE $5 to The Freedom Project or a Republican “Key Race” and receive a special edition bumper sticker that reads “America Can’t Afford the Pelosi Premium.”

---> The Pelosi Premium is the increase in price for a gallon of gas since Democrats took control of Congress. Today the Pelosi Premium is $1.61.
