About
The Freedom Project Basics: Who, What, Why
WHAT IS THE FREEDOM PROJECT?
The Freedom Project is a political action committee (PAC) established in 1995 to provide assistance to Republican candidates for federal office. Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) serves as honorary chairman. The Freedom Project is committed to a better America based on freedom and security, empowered citizens and personal responsibility. Our mission is to help elect a new Republican Majority to the U.S. House of Representatives.
WHAT DOES THE FREEDOM PROJECT DO?
The Freedom Project 1) provides direct financial assistance to Republican candidates for federal office; 2) supports Leader Boehner's political efforts to promote and fundraise for Republican candidates across the country; and 3) maintains FreedomProject.org -- a web-based clearinghouse for Republican activism featuring online fundraising and grassroots tools, and regular updates on key races and critical issues. The Freedom Project's online disclosure information is available at FEC.gov.
WHO IS JOHN BOEHNER?
John Boehner is the Republican Leader of the U.S. House of Representatives. John represents the 8th Congressional District of Ohio and is a key leader in the fight for a smaller, more accountable federal government. John has a record as a strong fiscal conservative; he's never requested so-called "earmarks," and is a powerful advocate for cutting federal spending and balancing the budget without raising taxes. National security is a top concern of John's, whether it is winning the war on terror or ensuring the safety of our borders. John believes Republicans can earn back the majority in Congress by promoting new and relevant solutions to the challenges facing Americans that are rooted in freedom, security, and the drive for a smaller, more accountable government. You can connect with Boehner on sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Digg.

GOP Candidates & Contributions
HOW DO YOU CHOOSE THE CANDIDATES ON FREEDOMPROJECT.ORG?
We focus on candidates in House races because that's our mission: to help elect a new Republican Majority to Congress. We feature candidates enrolled in the National Republican Congressional Committee's “Young Guns” program (whether a "YOUNG GUN," "CONTENDER," "ON THE RADAR," or "VANGUARD" candidate), all post-primary Republican challenger and open seat candidates, and all current Republican Members of Congress who are seeking re-election. We generally do not list candidates who are in a primary race unless they are also enrolled in the “Young Guns” program.
ARE MY CONTRIBUTIONS TO CANDIDATES OR THE FREEDOM PROJECT TAX DEDUCTIBLE?
No. Contributions to political candidates and committees are not tax-deductible.
HOW DO MY CONTRIBUTIONS GET TO GOP CANDIDATES?
Each week we send a check to campaigns that have received contributions through FreedomProject.org during the previous week. You can verify that your contribution was sent and received by the appropriate campaign by checking our online disclosures at FEC.gov.
I KNOW A GREAT GOP CANDIDATE THAT ISN'T LISTED. HOW CAN WE GET THEM ADDED TO FREEDOMPROJECT.ORG?
That's great. Contact us, let us know, and we'll investigate or help direct the campaign to the appropriate person to learn more about the "Young Guns" program.
HOW MUCH OF MY MONEY GOES TO CANDIDATES?
Your earmarked donations are sent to the candidates you designate. The recipient candidates bear the cost of the credit card processing fees, which is 4 % in this case, just as if you gave on the candidate's (or committee's) own web site. We do not take a cut of your contribution to a candidate, but if you'd like to make a contribution to The Freedom Project you may do so here.
WHAT ARE THE LIMITS ON MY CONTRIBUTIONS TO FEDERAL CANDIDATES?
Individuals may contribute up to $2,400 per candidate per election (or $4,800 TOTAL to a candidate for a primary and general election). Visit here for more information.
WHAT ARE THE LIMITS ON MY CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE FREEDOM PROJECT?
Individuals may contribute up to $5,000 per calendar year; individual contributions aggregate toward the overall bi-annual limit for committees. Political action committees may contribute up to $5,000 per calendar year. Visit here for more information.
